Archaia Entertainment and The Jim Henson Company mentioned last year that they'd like to bring some more mature classic properties out of the archives and into comics after they announced 2010's line of "Fraggle Rock" comics. "Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth" came up when that deal was first discussed, and it sounds like they're still in line for launches at the end of 2010 or beginning 2011.

"Those will be attacked next," said Melissa Segal, senior vice president of global consumer products at Jim Henson Company. "We haven’t gotten into real development, but we definitely have that in our agreement with Archaia to pursue.

Segal said both companies are currently focused on their "Fraggle Rock" books for the 2010 calendar year, but they definitely have an idea of when their next release window will be.

"If not late this year for the first issue, it will be early next year," she said.

Unlike the Fraggles, both "Dark Crystal" and "Labyrinth" have seen previous comics and manga incarnations from Marvel and Tokyopop. The hefty helpings of mythos and fantasy designs that come with them bring big possibilities and lots of storytelling options, though.
